The President instructed the Ministers of Interior, and Roads and Urban Development to immediately identify unsafe structures in the country and oblige their owners to reinforce these structures.
Speaking in the cabinet meeting on Sunday, Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi reiterated his condolences to the people of Khuzestan, especially the honourable people of Abadan and the families affected by the accident, saying, "Khuzestan is one of the important provinces of the country and from the first days of the government, a special governor-general was chosen for Khuzestan to follow up the issues of this province with high priority”.
Referring to the field report of the Minister of Interior, the President appreciated the efforts of various agencies and institutions to provide assistance to the victims of the accident of the collapse of the Abadan’s Metropole building.
Dr Raisi further emphasised the study of the dimensions, causes and factors of this accident, as well as paying special attention to the problems of the bereaved families of this accident.
The President also referred to the reports of the related institutions on the statistics of unsafe buildings in different parts of the country, and instructed the Ministers of Interior, Roads and Urban Development, to cooperate with the Engineering System Organisation and municipalities, to immediately identify these structures and enforce the law on them.
Emphasising that the government considers itself obliged to protect the lives of the people, Ayatollah Raisi said, "Owners of unsafe buildings should be obliged to strengthen the structures, and if anyone neglects it, he should be dealt with legally without any leniency”.
In another part of his speech, referring to the beginning of the process of drafting the Seventh Development Plan, the President obliged all agencies to cooperate with the Plan and Budget Organisation in drafting this plan.
