Iran welcomes deepening ties with Georgia/Iran rail network can link Georgia with Persian Gulf

“The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes developing ties with Georgia in all fields,” said President Rouhani in a meeting with the Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Kvirikashvili.

At the meeting that was held on Saturday, Dr Rouhani said: “Iran and Georgia have great potentials and capabilities for development of ties in the field of economy, science and culture”.
“This visit can function as a jump start for the development of ties,” he added, referring to Prime Minister Kvirikashvili’s visit to Tehran.
The President also said: “Today, transit is very important in the region and with regard to connecting Iran’s rail system to Astara and Azerbaijan and good rail and road connection in Georgia, deepening Tehran-Tbilisi ties in this field can make great developments in the region”.
Referring to the development of ties between Iran and Georgia in various scientific, academic, technological, trade, economic, agricultural fields, as well as technical and engineering services, including in the field of construction, roads and power plants, he said: “The investors of the two countries, especially the private sectors, must be supported and encouraged for more cooperation”.
On myriad tourism attractions in both countries and the two nations’ historical bonds, Dr Rouhani said that the ties in this field must be deepened and cemented, stressing that Iranian tourists’ culture and Iranian-Islamic values must be respected in Georgia.
He also referred to regional issues and said that Iran and Georgia can cooperate more in this field, adding: “Today, the region is facing with a big problem named terrorism and we should continue our cooperation in rooting it out”.
At the same meeting, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Kvirikashvili said: “Political, economic, and trade ties between the two countries is developing and we should make the best use of the opportunities and potentials for further deepening these ties”.
He added: “The government and people of Georgia respect Iranians and Muslims’ culture and beliefs and never disrespect their guests; and in doing so, we are seeking to implement special regulations at borders”.
The Prime Minister of Georgia also expressed his country’s willingness to cement relations in the field of transit and transportation of goods and said: “Tbilisi is determined to connect the Black Sea to the Persian Gulf through Iran”.
He also referred to the quadripartite Iran-Russia-Armenia-Georgia agreement for developing relations in the field of power and called for further deepening of these ties.
