President at a meeting with Ukrainian FM:

Tehran welcomes developing ties with Kiev/Iran considers Eastern Europe’s security important

Ukraine is one of Iran’s friends in the region and Tehran welcomes developing ties with Kiev in all areas of mutual interest, said President Rouhani at a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Ukraine.

“Ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Ukraine have always been good and growing and Tehran is willing to further develop these friendly ties,” added Dr Rouhani on Saturday in Tehran.

Referring to the great number of opportunities and capabilities the two countries have for deepening ties and cooperation, President Rouhani said: “These possibilities and capabilities can be used for strengthening mutual and regional cooperation, especially in economic fields”.

Cooperation between private sectors of the two countries is a must, said Rouhani, adding: “Cooperation between banks will further pave the way for mutual economic and business cooperation between the two countries”.

“Cooperation can also be developed in cultural, scientific, technological and tourism fields,” he added.

He also stressed that Iran considers Eastern Europe’s security important and added that dialogue, political discussion and peaceful solutions are the only way to sustainable security and solving regional problems.

During the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin described Iran as a country with deep history and rich culture and said that Kiev is seeking to have good, deep and advancing relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“In the road map of deepening Kiev-Tehran ties, we seek to have close relations with Iran in all fields, such as economic, agricultural and energy areas,” added Klimkin.
