Iran, Russia stress expanding Tehran-Moscow ties

Presidents of Iran and Russia, on the side-lines of the GECF Summit underline the need to deepen and develop ties in all areas.

President Rouhani met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin late on Monday on the side-lines of the GECF Summit in Tehran and said: “Fortunately in the recent months, valuable steps have been taken to develop Iran-Russia relations in mutual and international areas which should continue”.

Pointing out that Iran and Russia share viewpoints in most of the regional and international issues such as terrorism, Dr Rouhani said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran is serious in pursuing the big goal of combating terrorism and Russia, especially in the recent months, has taken effective actions in fighting with terrorism in the region”.

In the meeting, President Putin also thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for inviting him to the GECF Summit and said: “This summit, along with the issue of energy, was a good opportunity for the heads of other countries to meet with each other and exchange views on important issues”.

The Russian President also stressed the need to develop ties and relations in all areas between Iran and Russia in different areas and use the opportunities and potentials in the two countries.

On his meeting with the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Putin said: “Russia welcomes developing ties with Iran in different areas such as combating terrorism, as well as international cooperation in science, technology, and economy”.
