No one would think that a contagious disease would affect the human society, said the President adding, "Human knowledge is always limited and despite the great developments in different sciences, the human society did not expect coronavirus".

"It has always been emphasised that human beings should have social relations and be present in all economic, scientific, social and cultural programmes, but this disease affected the human relations," said Dr Rouhani.

He continued, "This virus affected the criteria for comparing nations, government and the human society such that many governments that boasted about their science, equipment and scientific and financial capabilities are completely dazzled by it".

Stressing that Iran can display its capabilities well in this competition, he continued, "Until this stage, we can say that our performance in fighting coronavirus is very good compared to many countries".

"Iran's actions and success in fighting coronavirus has invalidated many judgements about the system, the government and people," he said.

Dr Rouhani also said, "The Westerners thought that the Iranian nation could not resist sanctions and pressures for a few months, and they thought that with the outbreak of the virus, a country that is under the severest sanctions would not resist the problems".

On the achievements in various sectors in fighting coronavirus, he said, "Of course, the outbreak of the virus did harms to some sectors like the air industry, transportation and tourism, compensating which requires long-term efforts".

"Fortunately, with the government's efforts in the past 6 years, the number of ready hospital beds has doubled and this is not just for ordinary beds, but also ICU beds," he continued.

President Rouhani also said, "We were able to increase our special hospital beds by 900 new beds".

Nobody would think that Iran could manage the critical conditions despite harsh sanctions, said Rouhani, adding, "Iran's health sector's performance has been very good compared to other countries, while other sectors like the welfare agencies have done great".

"People's cooperation had a very important for controlling coronavirus and supplying the required materials for various sectors," he said.

Comparing people's cooperation and devotion during coronavirus spread with the Sacred Defence era, Dr Rouhani continued, "During the Sacred Defence era, our country was in very tough conditions as well, but people's presence and sacrifice helped us pass those hard days".

"In the beginning, our doctors, nurses and medical staff did not have access to even masks and enough equipment, and they helped patients without these, which is very valuable," he said.

Dr Rouhani continued, "Today, we can supply our domestic needs of ventilators, N95 masks and test kits, and we can also export, which is very great job".

Referring to the significant role of clerics, especially the Supreme Leader of the Revolution, in answering questions and promoting links between science and religion, he said, "Fortunately, we could eradicate some issues that currents that were after creating a gap between science and religion".

Stating that the post-coronavirus era will be much harder, the President said, "We must prepare for the post-coronavirus era from today".

"In the post-coronavirus era many scepticisms will be made in the social media and university classes, for which we need to plan to encounter," said the President.
