President in a meeting with the new Sweden’s Ambassador to Tehran:

Old Iran-Sweden ties should develop to benefit both nations/Deepening banking relations a key to Tehran-Stockholm economic ties

“Iran and Sweden have had very fruitful, constructive and old ties and in the post-JCPOA era, there are good opportunities to develop bilateral, regional and international ties to benefit both nations,” said President Rouhani in a meeting with the new Sweden’s Ambassador to Tehran.

At the meeting that was held on Monday, Dr Rouhani added: “In recent years, good attempts have been made to develop economic ties between the two countries and it is necessary that these attempts continue until we reach a desirable point of using all potentials, especially in the field of energy and industry”.

“Sweden can play a constructive role in developing Tehran’s ties with the European Union,” Dr Rouhani continued.

Referring to banking relations as the key to deepen economic ties, he said: “We hope to witness further momentum in growing Tehran-Stockholm relations very soon”.

He also expressed hope that the two countries cooperate more in resolving regional issues, such as terrorism, to help establish peace and stability in the region.

On regional issues, Dr Rouhani said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran calls on all countries to help deal with the issues of the region and combat terrorism because terrorism is a threat not only to the region, but also to the whole world”.

At the same meeting, the new Sweden’s Ambassador to Tehran, Helena Sangeland, presented his credentials to President Rouhani and said: “The government of Sweden seeks to deepen ties with Iran and my main responsibility is to develop Tehran-Stockholm ties in all fields”.

She added: “Today, JCPOA has created exceptional opportunities and Sweden hopes to promote its ties with Iran in this framework”.
