President in a joint press conference with Finnish counterpart:

Iran, Finland capacities for development of ties should be used/Tehran-Helsinki agree on cementing baking ties

“Without a doubt, this visit is a very good start for development of bilateral ties and regional and international cooperation,” said President Rouhani in a press conference, referring to the visit by the President of Finland to Tehran.

In the joint press conference that was held on Wednesday, Dr Rouhani referred to friendly relations between the two countries and said: “In the recent months we have witnessed growing relations in the field of economic ties”.

“Various fields such as energy, transportation, industry, environment, mining and forests can provide good opportunities for us to develop ties,” said Dr Rouhani.

Stressing that banking relations and export-related credit are two bases to cement economic ties, he added: “In this visit, we made decisions to promote banking relations in a short time span”.

President also continued saying that the two countries discussed ways of developing ties in scientific, academic and tourism fields, as well as fields related to advanced technology, especially in ICT, adding: “The two sides expressed willingness to further deepen tourism cooperation by establishing direct flights and connecting railways”.

He also said that opportunities to develop ties between Iran and the European Union, especially after the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, in fields such as economic cooperation, civil rights, human rights, and fight against drugs, extremism, and terrorism, were discussed.

We also discussed situations in Iraq, Syria, Libya and Yemen, said President Rouhani: “In this regard, we emphasised help by all countries to combat terrorism, as well as also political cooperation to put an end to instability”.

At the same meeting, the President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö said: “Without a doubt, JCPOA is a turning point in fostering Iran-Finland ties”.

He continued: “In this visit, I am accompanied by a big business delegation and they are satisfied with negotiations with the Iranian side”.
