President in a meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart:

Iranian companies ready to cooperate in development plans in Sri Lanka

“Iranian companies are ready to execute and cooperate in development plans in Sri Lanka,” said President Rouhani in a meeting with the President of Sri Lanka, Maithripala Sirisena on Monday in Thailand.

In the meeting that was held on the sidelines of Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) summit, Dr Rouhani said: “Iran and Sri Lanka have always had good relations and there is no obstacle on the path or development of ties between the two countries”.

Referring to common viewpoints by the two countries regarding regional and international issues, Dr Rouhani said: “The two countries have always supported each other’s stances in international communities”.

He added: “After implementation of the JCPOA and lift of sanctions, there are good opportunities for promotion of relations between the two countries, especially in economic fields”.

“Violence and extremism is the main factor of disputes and tensions in many communities and all groups, ethnicities, tribes and followers of different religions should be encouraged to increase toleration and have respectful dialogue,” he continued.

At the same meeting, the President of Sri Lanka, Maithripala Sirisena said that his country is firmly determined to deepen ties with Iran, adding: “Development of ties with Iran is very important to us”.

“The two countries’ relations is based on friendship and Iran has had a major role in development plans in Sri Lanka,” he added.
