President in a meeting with Chinese VP:

Iran, China should tap post-JCPOA opportunities for strategic ties/Relations should be directed towards 25-year inclusive plan

Fast-track and full implementation of bilateral agreements accelerates development of Tehran-Beijing ties within the framework of strategic ties, said President Rouhani in a meeting with the Vice-President of China, Li Yuanchao.

In the meeting that was held on Sunday in Thai capital, Bangkok, Dr Rouhani said: “Relations with China has been of high importance for Iran and we are willing to witness the two countries make the best use of post-JCPOA opportunities”.

Stressing further banking relations between the two countries, Dr Rouhani said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes China’s investment in Iran in the fields of oil and gas, transportation and technology and the two countries can further deepen their scientific and cultural ties”.

“The issue of the Silk Way and its revival is very important for development and economic cooperation in the region and Iran is ready to play its historical role in this field,” he said.

He further said that the two countries have common viewpoints in key regional issues and added: “China can help restore peace and stability to the region and also deliver humanitarian aid to the oppressed people of the region, especially those living in Yemen and Syria”.

The two sides also stressed that relations should be directed towards a 25-year inclusive plan.

At the same meeting, the Vice-President of China Li Yuanchao stated that Tehran-Beijing ties has entered a new chapter and added: “China welcomes development of ties with Iran in all fields”.

Mentioning the latest visit by the President of China to Iran, he said: “The level of ties between the two countries has promoted to strategic ties and agreements made between the two countries is being implemented”.
