Speaking on Tuesday in a phone call with the President of Senegal and the current President of the African Union, Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi congratulated him and the people of the African continent and the people of Senegal on African Day, adding, "I would like to commemorate the leaders and all those who kept the torch of freedom and independence of this continent burning and carried it despite many problems and hardships”.
Dr Raisi referred to the role of the African Union in countering unilateralism and colonialism and added, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has been, and will be, a reliable partner for all African nations".
Referring to the high technical-engineering capacity of Iran, the President said, "Tehran and Dakar have good relations with each other, but this level of relations is not acceptable and should be upgraded to a suitable level”.
Ayatollah Raisi called attention to the African continent one of the main axes of Iran's foreign policy and added, "Iran is a reliable partner for African countries".
In this telephone call, the President of Senegal Mr Macky Sall called for conveying his greetings to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution and thanked the President of Iran for his congratulations on Africa Day and said that it indicates Iran’s special attention to the continent”.
Referring to the history of friendly relations between the two countries, he added, "Our current relations are less than they should be and we are ready for any cooperation to improve it".
The President of Senegal referred to the good cooperation of his country with some Iranian companies and said:, "I have come to Iran twice and I have seen your progress in person”.
