Speaking in a meeting with the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohammed al-Halbousi, on Wednesday afternoon, Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi referred to the history of Iran-Iraq friendship and neighbourliness for thousands of years, and said, “The two countries have a serious will for the comprehensive development of relations and no factor can disrupt the deep and friendly relations between the two nations of Iran and Iraq; We have proved to be friends during each other's difficult times”.
Expressing satisfaction with the favourable level of interaction between Iran and Iraq, the President said, "The Iraqi Parliament can be a place to deepen parliamentary cooperation with neighbouring countries and the region, and the Islamic Republic of Iran will not withhold any assistance to Your Excellency and the Iraqi Parliament”.
Congratulating the re-election of the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament to the position, Dr Raisi said, “I hope that the members of the Iraqi parliament exercise sympathy and understanding to choose a President and Prime Minister and form the cabinet with the aim of solving the problems of the Iraqi people and contribute to the all-inclusive relations of Iraq with its neighbouring countries, especially Iran”.
The President described the integrity and unity of the various currents and ethnic groups in Iraq as the key to the country's success, adding, "Sowing discord between or within religions and ethnic groups will cause the enemy to infiltrate, which sacrifices the interests of countries”.
Dr Raisi noted, "I hope that the Iraqi parliament will pass the necessary laws to prevent the formation of factors that threaten the security of neighbours and disrupt the stability of the region”.
The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohammed al-Halbousi, also said in the meeting that he had travelled to Iran to emphasise the need to continue and strengthen friendly relations between the two nations and two countries, saying, “The members of my accompanying delegation are the representatives of different religious and ethnic groups, and their presence means the interest of all Iraqis to strengthen their friendship with Iran”.
The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament said, "Both countries have gone through difficult years and we must work together to create a different future for our nations, and I will try to make sure that the Iranian and Iraqi friends are together in times of hardship and peace”.
