Increase in price of goods, especially essentials not acceptable at all/ Industry Ministry obliged to take serious control of prices, prevent any increase

The 231st meeting of the Cabinet’s Economic Coordination Board was held on Tuesday in a session chaired by the President, at the beginning of which a report on the prices of basic goods and consumer and essential items and measures taken by the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade was presented.

Emphasising the government's decision to control prices, Dr Hassan Rouhani said, "The government has explicitly announced that any increase in price of goods, and especially people’s essential needs is not acceptable at all, and the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade is obliged to take serious control of prices and prevent any increase”.

Regarding the activities in the field of digital currency and cryptocurrencies, the President stressed the need to preserve and protect national interests in this field, saying, "Today, the economic intelligence program is a requirement and we must pay attention to the legal and technical requirements”.

Dr Rouhani emphasised that the awareness of the people in this field is necessary and considering the significant risks in the field of cryptocurrency trade, unprofessional entry in this field should be avoided, adding, "For legalising the activity of cryptocurrencies and protecting people’s capital in this area, we must think of a solution as soon as possible and lay down and communicate the necessary laws and instructions”.

Referring to the new phenomenon of cryptocurrencies and its requirements, the President added, "The responsible agencies in the field of capital markets should cooperate with the media and cyberspace in the field of information, education and public awareness about this phenomenon and its instructions and laws”.

Dr Rouhani clarified, "The mining of cryptocurrencies is strictly prohibited until the end of summer, and the Ministries of Communication and Information Technology and Energy are responsible for cutting off power to these centres”.
