President leaves Tehran for New York

President Hassan Rouhani left Tehran minutes ago, heading for New York to attend the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly.

Dr Rouhani was seen off at the airport by Advisor to the Supreme Leader in International Affairs Dr Velayati and First Vice-president Dr Jahangiri, as well as a number of cabinet ministers and vice-presidents.

President is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly and express the views of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the latest regional and international developments.

He is accompanied by Foreign Minister Dr Mohammad Javad Zarif, Chief of Staff Dr Mahmoud Vaezi, Deputy Chief of Staff of the President for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi and Political Deputy to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi.

In addition to a speech at the General Assembly, Dr Rouhani is going to have another speech at the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit at the United Nations General Assembly.

A meeting with senior media executives and elite in New York City, a meeting with a group of foreign policy elites, as well as a meeting with a number of leaders of Islamic communities in the United States are on president’s agenda for the meeting.

During his visit to New York, Dr Rouhani will also have an interview international media, hold a public press conference, and meet with leaders of some countries attending the General Assembly, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, as well as some heads of international organisations.
