President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Sunday evening that all regional states should fulfill their responsibility in the international campaign against terrorism.

He made the remarks while commenting on Turkey's military attacks on northern Iraq.

Turkey has recently launched a series of military air and ground attacks on northern Iraq to fight rebels of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) who used some bases in mountains of northern Iraq as a spring-board for attacks across the border.

Turkish aircraft attacked rebel hide-outs and ground troops clashed with Kurdish guerrillas in the area.

However, the military operations were halted on March 1 as Ankara announced that it has achieved its goals.

"Terrorism hurts everyone and all regional states are responsible to fight it," said President Ahmadinejad speaking after a meeting with Head of Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, Abd al-Aziz al-Hakim.

The Iranian president arrived in the Iraqi capital on Sunday for landmark visit by an Iranian president since the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran.

A ranking delegation is accompanying the president including Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki as well as ministers of energy, economy and transport and a group of Majlis deputies.

The president said his visit aimed at consolidating bilateral friendly relations as well as cementing bilateral ties and cooperation between the two neighboring states.
