Cementing Iran-Malaysia ties beneficial to both nations, region/Iran ready to deepen ties with Malaysia in fighting terrorism

"Certainly, the development of relations between Iran and Malaysia in all fields will be beneficial to both nations and the region", said President Rouhani while receiving letter of credence of the new Ambassador of Malaysia to Tehran.

At the meeting that took place on Tuesday in Tehran, Dr Rouhani also described his last year visit to Malaysia very fruitful and stressed that Tehran-Kuala Lumpur agreements should be implemented.

The President added that the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches great weight to relations with Southeast Asian countries and expressed hope that with attempts by the two countries' authorities, the potentials be used for relations between the two countries to reach an acceptable level.

He went on to describe Malaysia a developing country among Islamic countries and a country that promotes the merciful and moderate views of Islam and said: "Deepening cultural and social relations between countries that believe in moderate Islam is very important".

He also stated that Iran is ready to deepen ties with Malaysia in fighting against terrorism and violence in the region, adding: "Violent and extremist views, which we are witnessing today, are very dangerous for the region and the Islamic world and Iran and Malaysia can cooperate with each other in promoting cultural ties in the Islamic world, along with deepening economic and trade relations".

"The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to develop its ties with Malaysia in different fields, including energy and tourism," President Rouhani continued.

He also expressed hope that in the term of office of the new Malaysian ambassador to Tehran, the two countries witness positive developments in relations and cooperation between the two nations and governments.

At the meeting, the new Ambassador of Malaysia to Tehran, Dato Rustam bin Yahaya also presented his letter of credence to President Rouhani and said: "Malaysia is willing to deepen and cement ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran in all fields, especially economy".

"Relations between Iran and Malaysia are developing today and we are willing to further develop these ties," he added.
