In an iftar ceremony with ministers, vice-presidents, governor generals and heads of governmental organisations on Saturday, President Rouhani said: “Some may say that the 11th administration is not very active in the last days of its tenure but even if there is one day left of its term of office, the burden of its responsibility is on our shoulders”.

“Imam Khomeini (RA) achieved great historic achievements with his true belief in God and the path of the Revolution,” continued the President, expressing condolences over the anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s demise.

He continued: “Each and every one of us must feel the heavy burden of the 24 million votes that people gave us. Of course, we are not merely responsible for the 24 million votes to us but also about the other 16 million people who did not vote for us and even those who did not even vote”.

“People did not vote for the best conditions in the country, but rather they voted for the way of the administration and what I understand from people’s votes is that they told us to continue the path we had chosen,” added the President.

Dr Rouhani also said: “This does not mean that they have told us what has been done is enough but they confirmed that this way is the way to go and continue it with more hard work and effort”.

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran also said: “The people of Iran want not only freedom of speech, but also a social move, employment and cultural issues”.

Stressing that nothing in the country is above the law, he said: “Law should be the base. The country belongs to the nation and the people who came to the ballot boxes know that all problems will not be resolved in only four years with a single election”.

People marked a historic greatness in the election and put a heavy burden on our shoulders, said Rouhani, adding: “We must continue along the path the people showed us”.

Defending the administration means defending people’s votes and majority, continued the President. He also said: “We all must work together and make sacrifices for our country’s development and progress”.
