President at Mehrabad Airport:

ECO members determined to deepen ties/Good agreements made for cementing ties with Pakistan, Turkey

Stressing that the member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) are determined to deepen ties, President Rouhani said: “There are great potentials for deepening and cementing ties and cooperation among member countries that must be tapped”.

“When we talk about constructive interaction, it means that in the first step, we should have this interaction with neighbours and ECO members; and some steps have been taken in this way,” said President Rouhani late on Wednesday in Mehrabad Airport back from his trip to Pakistan.

He continued: “In the 13th summit, we discussed cooperation in roads, railroads, shipping, natural gas and oil network and removing obstacles on the way of trade between member countries”.

The President also said: “We believe that the ECO potentials for activating business executives in private and public sectors should be used”.

“Combatting extremism and terrorism must be prioritised and in this summit, the members emphasised this point,” he continued.

The President also said: “Iran, Turkey and Pakistan are founders of the ECO and, in meetings with the leaders of these two countries, we discussed relations and cooperation with them”.

Referring to Turkey and most European countries’ willingness to invest in Iran, especially after the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), he said: “In the meeting with the President of Turkey, we discussed regional issues and problems; this is while good moves have been made by Iran, Turkey and Russia in resolving regional issues”.

“Current conditions of Syria and that the people must be those who decide the future of their countries, fighting terrorism and developing cooperation among Iran, Turkey and Iraq and also issues and problems of Yemen and that the issues of the country must be resolve through Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue was also discussed with the President of Turkey,” he said.

Referring to his meeting with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Dr Rouhani said: “In the field of cooperation in energy sectors, both Turkey and Pakistan want to buy oil and natural gas from Iran”.

“Our natural gas exports to Turkey must increase and the gas export project to Pakistan must be finalised. With gas supply project to Zahedan being operationalised today, Iran’s natural gas has reached the nearest point to Iran-Pakistan borders and this made the people of Zahedan very happy,” he continued.

He continued: “There is no competition between Chabahar and Gwadar ports and they should cooperate and we will support developing both ports”.
