President in a meeting with Turkish counterpart:

Deepening friendly ties, cooperation with neighbours a key principle in Iran’s foreign policy/Developing Tehran-Ankara ties beneficial to stability in entire region

Mentioning Iran and Turkey’s opportunities and potentials to cement ties and cooperation in various fields, President Rouhani stressed deepening bilateral and regional ties between Tehran and Ankara.

“Developing inclusive relations between the two countries will be beneficial to both nations, peace and stability of the entire region,” said President Rouhani speaking with the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

He continued: “Investors of the two countries can have good cooperation in carrying our joint projects”.

Referring to Iran and Turkey’s opportunities and potentials to cement ties and cooperation in various fields, including energy, transportation, and banking and financial ties, President Rouhani said: “The meeting of the joint commission of Iran and Turkey, which is going to be held next year in Tehran, can bring about significant developments in developing economic relations between the two countries”.

He also described deepening friendly ties and cooperation with neighbours a key principle in Iran’s foreign policy, adding: “Contributing to the region’s stability is a significant part of relations between the two countries and settling issues and disputes through political was can eventually contribute to peace and stability in the region”.

He also went on to describe combatting terrorism as the main aim in confronting regional issues and said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran insists on preserving the territorial integrity of the countries of the region and is against any violation of territorial integrity in the region, especially in Syria and Iraq”.

Disagreement among countries of the region will not be to anybody’s benefit, underscored Rouhani adding: “We believe that the killing of people must be stopped in Yemen, immediate cease-fire be established and the issues of the country be settled through Yemeni-Yemeni dialogues”.

The Islamic Republic of Iran always welcomes dialogue and mutual respect for resolving issues and disputes, said Dr Rouhani. He went on to say: “We must attempt to put an end to war and bloodshed and foreign powers’ intervention in the region as soon as possible”.

At the same meeting, the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also said: “Turkey is determined to finalise preferential trading with Iran and we are committed to make the 30 billion-dollar economic ties with Iran realised”.

He also stressed the joint cooperation between the two countries’ private sectors adding: “Developing cooperation and relations between the two countries in all fields will be beneficial to both nations”.

Erdoğan continued that developing ties with Iran is among Turkey’s key policies and continued: “We should try to further increase investment and joint cooperation by using national money”.

The President of Turkey also emphasised the need for the two countries to cooperate in settling regional issues and fighting terrorism.
