Dr Rouhani added: “Everybody should attempt to resolve issues of the country through following the path of moderation and wisdom”.

“Iran’s foreign policy is based on closer ties with neighbours, especially Islamic countries,” added the President.

Stressing that resolving Syrian issue is possible through political negotiation, he added: “Nobody has the right to decide for the Syrian people”.

Appreciating people of taking part in Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani's funeral, he said: "Our people are grateful of their distinguished servants who have been effective in the victory of the Islamic Revolution".

"In addition to his significant services to the revolution, Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani showed us the best way of running the country with his patience, equinamity, silence, moderation, rationality, wisdom, and tolerance," the President added.

"Today, that great man is not among us and we cannot use his ideas for our future directly, but his ways, path and advice".

Calling on all people involved in political matters, Dr Rouhani continued: "I call on all people involved in political matters to continue along this path not only for this year, but also for the coming years. We should continue this path for our beloved country's prosperity".

Appreciating people for supporting the government, the President also said: "If the Government of Prudence and Hope has had achievements in political, cultural, scientific and economic fields, these achievements are because of your presence, attempt, help, resistance, firmness, thinking and patience".

We have had very good advancements in a great number of fields and we need to make more attempts in other fields, the president added.

He continued referring to his promise to the people in the beginning of the year to boost economic growth to 5 per cent, adding: "Today, we have a 7.4% growth rate which we know no equivalent for it in the region and there are not many instances in the world".

On measures taken for boosting up employment rate, he said: "In this regard, I thank all people and entrepreneurs. Although we have a long way to reach the ultimate goal but having a rate of 700,000 net employment in one year has not many equivalents in the world".

He went of referring to nuclear negotiations and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and added: "JCPOA does not belong to the 11th government or any individual. JCPOA belongs to the great Iranian nation and the powerful leader, martyrs of the Sacred Defence era, nuclear martyrs and other people who have sacrificed themselves for the country".

"What is more important than JCPOA for us, is a nation's success; why shouldn't we be grateful to the Almighty for this success?," the president went on to say.

Nobody should doubt that JCPOA was the Iranian nation's victory of morality, he Rouhani said, adding: "We had told the world that we were not pursuing nuclear weapons and WMDs; we had told the world that Iran being accused of pursuing WMDs is a lie and false accusation".

"In JCPOA, we proved to the world that Iranian nation and state are honest and those who made false accusations against the state, should be ashamed of themselves in the history of the world," he continued.

Dr Rouhani continued: "There were few experts in the country who believed that the PMD case could be settled and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) would officially admit that Iran's issues in the nuclear field has been resolved… Therefore, the closure of the case was a great moral victory for the great Iranian nation".

"In nuclear negotiations and the JCPOA, we were victorious from political viewpoint because we told the world that Iran was not a state to be treated with security measures. We wanted to tell the world that Iran is a country that can have an effective and active role in different issues of the world and Iran's absence in political stages of the region and the world was detrimental to the entire world".

"We wanted to tell the world that Iranophobia is incorrect; but rather Iran is seeking peace and security in the region and the world. We wanted to tell the world that Iran has the right not to be under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, which determined Iran as a threat to global peace and security," he added.

The President went on to say: "We were victorious politically and cancelled the unjust resolutions by the hands of the same organisation that had adopted it".

"We succeeded in preserving our national rights. We considered enrichment as Iranian nation's right and were saying that we have the right to peaceful nuclear activities like any other advanced country and this was our victory that the United Nations and the IAEA recognise our peaceful nuclear activities and this was a legal victory and success for us," he continued.

The President also said: "We had told our people that we would accept the nuclear deal when all nuclear sanctions against Iran should be abandoned by the negotiating parties all at once," said Rouhani adding that Iran had told the negotiating parties that it would not be acceptable to lift sanctions one by one.

"Some major countries, especially the US, are obstructing implementation of the JCPOA. This is what we expected from the beginning. When a government is hostile towards another, it is clear that it will not use all its might for implementation of an agreement".

He continued: "Our dear people should know that in global agreements, even with a single country, some problems may arise in the implementation process but we should not lose our patience, but must consider our national interests".

"We have stood, and will stand powerfully against lack of commitment to promises. I assure people that we have acted authoritatively. Our national interest is fundamental for us and we will always consider this," said Rouhani.

In response to a question about Syria, he said: "Regional issues, especially the issue of Syria are very important for us. Today after 5 years of clashes in Syria and a lot of killing, we are in general happy that a cease-fire has been achieved, which is in itself a positive step".

We should try to maintain the cease-fire in Syria, said Rouhani adding: "Before this, a number of politicians, who were mostly living outside the country, would convene and talk and go back, but today, negotiations are between the government and the armed forces that have accepted the truce which can make a real and serious negotiation happen".

"Iran, Russia and Turkey have made a lot of attempt for the Astana meeting, a meeting which is based on Syrian-Syrian negotiations," Rouhani said.

He added: "The Islamic Republic of Iran is always trying to help resolve the Syrian issue through negotiation and political ways and we will use all our might in that regard".

In response to another question about Iran's relations with countries of the Persian Gulf, he said: "Iran’s foreign policy is based on closer ties with neighbours, especially Islamic countries and the member countries of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf are no exception to this".

"It is to the benefit of the region and Saudi Arabia to stop attacking our brother nation, Yemen as soon as possible," the President also said.
