Stating that conditions are favourable to further deepen Tehran-Astana ties, Dr Rouhani added: “The first key issue in this regard is the location of both countries with regard to transit ways. Developing railway and roads, as well as establishing direct flights between the two countries is in line with this”.

“As for regional cooperation, Iran has declared readiness to join the SCO and the Eurasian Economic Union and Mr President promised to help us in both areas,” Rouhani added.

He went on to say: “As for the legal status of the Caspian Sea, we have always cooperated in this issue and we need to solve this issue together with other Caspian Sea littoral countries,”

“We discussed the problems of our region and how we should cooperate during our talks, in particular, in fighting terrorism which poses threat to the region and all countries,” Dr Rouhani continued.

The President also said: “We all are concerned over today’s situation in Iraq and Syria. The whole Muslim community needs to jointly solve this problem and restore stability and security to the whole region”.

Describing Iran as a close neighbour and reliable partner, he added: “We never broke our relations even during sanctions against Iran. We hosted two rounds of negotiations concerning the nuclear program and we made contribution to solve the issue”.

Iranian companies are working on agricultural projects worth $480mn, said the President of Kazakhstan adding: “Kazakhstan is ready to export both grain and other agricultural products to Iran,” Nazarbayev added.
