Iran, Armenia underscore deepening ties

The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Armenia issued a joint communique stressing serious resolve to further development of ties.

During meetings between the Presidents of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Armenia, the statement read "both presidents discussed issues of mutual interest in political, economic and cultural fields, as well as regional and international issues".

"President Hassan Rouhani and President Serzh Sargsyan expressed satisfaction over high level of relations based on historical friendship between the two nations, and voiced their serious resolve to further develop these ties".

Regarding the importance of joint commission of cooperation between the two countries, the statement read: "The two Presidents stressed the need to implement the agreements made in the commission".

The statement went on emphasising that parliamentary relations be deepened between the two countries.

"Both sides also deemed developing transportation potentials essential. In this regard, the Presidents of both countries stressed the need to use international and transit routes within the framework of north-south corridor, connecting the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea," the statement added.

It continued: "The two Presidents also referred to the agreement aimed at abolishing visas between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Armenia to further develop tourism industry".

The statement further read that both parties stressed that durable peace, stability and security in the region should be further strengthened to solve regional issues and disputes, including peacefully settling the Karabakh dispute.

On the achievements of Iran's nuclear deal, it further added that it "will provide favourable conditions for regional and international security".

"Both sides also described important the ban on using and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction".

It also read: "The Presidents of both countries also discussed international terrorism and organised crimes, and expressed their willingness to stage bilateral or multilateral fight against such threats".

"During the visit, his Excellency Mr Rouhani, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran invited his Excellency Mr Sargsyan to make an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran and the President of Armenia, expressing appreciation, accepted the invitation".
