Terrorism and sowing discord are two great conspiracies of the enemies against nations of the region, said President Rouhani in a meeting with the head of the National Shia Alliance of Iraq, Ammar al-Hakim on Tuesday.

In the meeting that was held in Tehran, Dr Rouhani also said: “There is no doubt that the oppressed nations of the region, especially the people of Iraq will be the final victorious side of the fight”.

Referring to Iraqi nation’s fight against terrorism and foreign conspiracies, Dr Rouhani said: “The Iranian nation and government will stand by the oppressed nations of the region, especially Iraq and Syria in this fight and will spare no effort in this regard”.

"Those who are against Iraq's unity and territorial integrity are attempting to sow discord among ethnic and religious groups in Iraq to be able to advance their goals," he said, hailing the formation of the National Shia Alliance in Iraq as a great and valuable effort in this regard.

"The national alliance's political efforts, along with the Iraqi Army and the Popular Mobilization Forces in fighting the terrorists, and above all, the Maraji's measures, has promised a hopeful future," he continued.

Stressing that the most important issue in Iraq are territorial integrity and unity of the people, Dr Rouhani said: "Unfortunately, words and actions of some major world powers indicate that they are seeking to sow discord among the Iraqi nation like before".

He also said that Tehran-Baghdad ties should develop and deepen in all political, economic and cultural fields, adding: "Arba'een procession is the manifestation of the two nation's determination to promote the role of Islam".

At the meeting, the head of the National Shia Alliance of Iraq, Ammar al-Hakim also have a report about current issues and situations in Iraq and the process of forming the National Alliance, as well as the Alliance's proposed plan to foster national unity throughout the country.

Appreciating Iran for supporting the government and the people of Iraq, he said: "Regarding the two governments' interest, we are seeking ways to develop Iran-Iraq ties to an extent that it serves as an example and model for relations in the region".
