President while visiting Pars Wagon factory in Arak:

Developing rail network 11th gov’t policy/6 provinces to be connected to nationwide railway/Broad plan to connect Iran’s railway to the world

President Rouhani visited Pars Wagon factory in Arak city on the first day of his two-day provincial tour to Markazi province.

In the visit that took place on Sunday, Dr Rouhani told reporters: “For about 50 years, Markazi province has been Iran’s industrial centre and today, a lot of important industries are active in this region”.

“Pars Wagon has abundant capacities for manufacturing freight and passenger carriages and is capable of manufacturing over 1000 carriages a year,” said Rouhani, stressing that these capacities should be made the best use of.

Dr Rouhani also spoke to the workers of the industrial complex and said: “Form its beginning, the 11th government has followed the policies of developing rail network in the country and so far, vey important measures have been taken in this regard”.

He continued: “By the next few years, roughly 6 provinces will be connected to the nationwide railway and Tehran-Mashhad and Tehran-Isfahan express railway will start working. Also, Iran will be connected to Caucasus and Central Asia, as well as China, Russia and Eastern Europe through rail system”.

“Rail network should be responsible for carrying passengers and freight, therefore, Pars Wagon will witness significant development in the future,” he continued.

Dr Rouhani also emphasised using domestically-produced goods and said: “Of course, production units such as Pars Wagon should be developed and reformed”.

“The government is trying to make the best use of the capacities of industrial units and activate inactive enterprises,” continued Rouhani.

During the visit to the factory, which is the largest locomotive manufacturing company in the Middle East, Dr Rouhani was briefed by managers and engineers of the industrial complex.

Pars Wagon is Iran’s first locomotive manufacturing company and has been manufacturing locomotives, trains, metros and freight and fuel wagons.

The company is the largest in the Middle East and Iran’s first locomotive manufacturing company.
