In the conference that was held on Saturday, Dr Rouhani also said: “Over the past three years, the government has don’t its utmost for development of villages but there is still a lot to do to reach the desired point”.

Mentioning that villagers are the roots of social life, he continued: “Protecting villages and their cultural assets, as well as supporting production in villages and preventing emigration should be of serious concern to all authorities”.

Highlighting the need to save water and use it efficiently, Dr Rouhani said: “Water and soil are the main assets of villages”.

He went on saying: “We are facing drought and we should use our water resources carefully and efficiently”.

The president also said: “We should move towards industrial agriculture and development of small and medium industries”.

“Village culture is characterised by honesty, courage, bravery and patriotism,” continued President Rouhani.

He continued: “The reason why the government is attempting to take the Internet to villages is that educated youths in villages will be able to make the best use of their scientific and cultural capabilities with the help of the Internet”.

“Currently, 72% of the rural areas are enjoying healthy water and by the end of 1394 (last year on the Iranian calendar), roughly 38000 villages were covered by water services and this process is continuing,” Dr Rouhani continued.

He also referred to government’s plans and efforts in providing villages with electricity and natural gas, as well as health, saying: “In year 1393 and 1394, 1,986 health centres have started working in villages”.

Referring to telecommunications, president said: “In year 1392 and 1393, 1500 villages had landline and this figure has reached 1700 villages in year 1393 and 1394 and by the end of the current year, roughly 25000 villages will be enjoying electronic services and high-speed Internet”.

The most important issue in villages is employment, said Rouhani adding: “If we want villages to remain villages, we should confront unemployment in rural areas”.

He also said: “Some media should stop lying, making accusations and promoting discords and division”.

“Some unkind newspapers and websites always used to say that why the government is not replacing its ministers, but when the government does so, the same unkind newspapers and websites say ‘why the government has done so?’”.
