President at the meeting of high-ranking delegations of Iran and Thailand:

Both gov’ts determined to deepen ties in all fields/Iranian gov’t backs private sectors’ cooperation

The Islamic Republic of Iran and Thailand announced that they were ready to open a new chapter in relations between the two countries and help each other to access East Asian region, as well as West- and Central Asia, and eventually European markets.

“Today, the two governments are determined to develop bilateral ties in all fields, especially political, economic, cultural and scientific relations,” said President Rouhani at the meeting of high-ranking delegations of Iran and Thailand on Sunday in Bangkok.

Speaking to the Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha, Dr Rouhani said: “Thailand can be a bridge for Iran to let it access East Asia and Iran will be the best gate for development of trade relations between East Asia and Thailand with the region, Central Asia, Caucasus and Europe”.

He also went on referring to Iran’s suitable infrastructure in ports and north-south rail transit corridors, and called Iran as the most stable and secure country in the region at the heart of a market with 400 million people.

“Developing and deepening ties between Iran and Thailand will both meet the interests of the two nations and complement regional cooperation,” he continued.

On banking relations, President Rouhani said: “To put new economic agreements into action, we have taken the first step and we should get ready for beginning preferential trade”.

There is no obstacle on the path of development of ties with Thailand, Dr Rouhani said adding: “We can increase economic cooperation between Tehran and Bangkok twice as the current rate”.

Stating that private sectors should be supported, he said that facilitating cooperation between private sectors is essential, adding: “The two countries can cooperate in different fields, such as oil, gas and petrochemicals, fishery, road construction, automobile parts manufacture, agriculture and garden and agricultural products”.

The two countries should resume flights, Dr Rouhani added, saying: “Development of air fleet can contribute to cooperation in the field of tourism”.

He also expressed hope that the second Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) summit initiate faster development of Asia-Asia ties.

On terrorism, he said: “Terrorism, violence and extremism are global issues and fighting them needs by all countries’ contribution”.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister of Thailand, Prayut Chan-o-cha said: “The government of Thailand is firmly determined to develop and deepen ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran”.

“We want to open a new page in the two countries’ relations”, he added.

Appreciating and acknowledging Iran’s regional and international policies, he said: “I completely agree with your approach to terrorism. Terrorism is a global issue and we should fight its roots before doing anything else”.
