President in a joint press conference with Malaysian PM:

We are determined to turn 2016 into the year of development in Tehran-Kuala Lumpur ties

Tehran and Kuala Lumpur are determined to promote the level of relations to the pre-sanctions state and then increase trade to more than two times.

In the press conference that was held Friday afternoon in Kuala Lumpur, Dr Rouhani said: “We are also determined to turn 2016 to the year of development, progress and improvement in the two countries’ relations in economic, political, scientific and cultural fields”.

Appreciating the Malaysian government and nation’s hospitality, he added: “Relations with Asian countries, especially the friend and brother nation of Malaysia is of key importance in Iran’s foreign policy”.

“Today, Tehran and Kuala Lumpur are determined to promote the level of relations to the pre-sanctions state and then increase trade to more than two times,” he continued.

He added: “We welcome Malaysia’s presence in Iran’s market in various fields, especially in post-JCPOA and post-sanctions era and the Iranian government supports this,”.

Stressing banking relations, Dr Rouhani added: “We should fully inform the private sectors of both countries about the cooperation opportunities that they have”.

“Iran also supports Malaysian companies’ investment in various fields of oil, gas and petrochemicals, as well as food industries,” he continued.

Dr Rouhani went on saying that the two countries should develop academic and technological cooperation, adding: “Iran and Malaysia have myriad tourist attractions and the people of both countries can enjoy them”.

He also referred to Malaysia’s premium palm oil, as stated by the Prime Minister, and said: “We are ready to host a Malaysian delegation to give us information about the oil with regard to its health”.

On terrorism, President Rouhani said: “The scourge of terrorism is a common concern in the region and the world for the two countries and we stressed that governments and countries should do their utmost fighting terrorism”.

The President also talked about the issues of the Islamic community and said: “We both believe that all branches of Islam have a common goal and it has originated from a single root”.
