In order to take part in UN General Assembly;

President arrives in New York

President Rouhani’s plane touched down at JFK Airport on Tuesday and he was received by the Ambassador and staff of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran is scheduled to attend the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly, meet with a number of high-ranking officials of countries around the world and have meetings with political and economic elites and leaders of different religions.

Before going to New York, Dr Rouhani visited Cuba on Monday and took part in the meeting of high-ranking delegations of Iran and Cuba after being officially received by the President of Cuba Raúl Castro. President also met with the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro.

The trip to Havana took place after President Rouhani attended the 17th NAM Summit in Margarita Island, Venezuela and handed over the presidency to Venezuela. During his visit to Venezuela, President Rouhani addressed the Non-Aligned Movement Summit and explained the Islamic Republic of Iran’s viewpoints and stances regarding the most important regional and international issues, highlighting NAM member states’ duties. He also met with a number of presidents and high-ranking officials of other countries attending the summit.

Upon arrival at New York, the President told reporters: “In this visit, in addition to addressing the UN General Assembly, I will have meetings with Islamic elites and politicians and a number of heads of states”.

“This visit is taking place after attending NAM Summit in Venezuela and a short stop in Cuba,” continued Rouhani.
