President in a meeting with Indonesian Vice-President:

Maintaining unity essential in Islamic World/OIC, NAM should fulfil duties in establishing peace, stability/Tehran sees no limits cooperating with Jakarta

Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and Non-Aligned Movement, as two key international organisations should fulfil their duties in establishing peace and stability in the current historic and critical point, said President Rouhani in a meeting with the Vice-President of Indonesia.

In the meeting that was held on the sidelines of the 17th NAM Summit in Margarita Island, Venezuela, Dr Rouhani said: “The two countries have very close political and regional stances and it is essential that they further develop ties and cooperation”.

Stressing that deepening banking relations is key to development of relations in all fields of mutual interest, Dr Rouhani said: “Tehran and Jakarta enjoy very good capacities in terms of economy and can further develop ties in post-JCPOA era”.

President also stated that unity should be fostered in the Islamic World, adding: “Hegemonic powers are seeking to create tensions and conflicts in different parts of the Islamic World, therefore we should be vigilant and confront extremism and violence in Islamic communities”.

“Islam is the religion of compassion and mercy and the Quran has invited Muslims to brotherhood, unity and integrity; fortunately, Iran and Indonesia are the pioneers of Islam of mercy and brotherhood,” he continued.

Describing the current conditions of the region worrying, Rouhani said: “In the current conditions, great countries such as Indonesia and Iran have a heavy duty in establishing peace and stability in the Islamic World to not let even one Muslim die”.

“Tehran sees no limits in its relations with Jakarta,” added President Rouhani.

Vice-President of Indonesia Muhammad Jusuf Kalla also described mutual ties friendly and historical and said: “As two important Islamic countries, Iran and Indonesia have always sought peace and development in the Islamic World”.

He continued: “To raise the level of relations in different fields, Tehran and Jakarta can develop constructive cooperation with each other in establishing peace and security in the Islamic World”.
