Deepening Tehran-New Delhi ties beneficial to both nations, region/Stressing development of economic ties, acceleration of Iran-India agreements

Iran and India are two great countries in the region with great economic capabilities and Tehran welcomes development of ties with New Delhi in all fields, said President Rouhani in a meeting with the Vice-President of India Hamid Ansari.

In the meeting that was held on Saturday on the sidelines of the 17th NAM Summit in Margarita Island, Venezuela, Dr Rouhani stressed: “Economic ties between Iran and India should develop and deepen along with the level of relations”.

“Without a doubt, development of Tehran-New Delhi ties in all fields is beneficial to the two nations and the region,” continued Rouhani.

He also referred to the agreements made between the two countries during Indian Prime Minister’s latest visit to Tehran and said: “Quick implementation of these agreements, especially in relation to banking and railway cooperation and development of Chabahar Port can further accelerate these ties”.

On regional issues, he said: “While the region is struggling with extremism and terrorism, development of regional cooperation between Tehran and New Delhi is essential to strengthen and create stability and security in the region, which is beneficial to all countries in the region”.

Vice-President of India Hamid Ansari stressed that cooperation between the two countries should further develop in all fields, adding: “Cooperation between the two old and friend countries can contribute to peace and development throughout the region”.

He continued: “The two countries’ relations will always be strong and we have just opened a new chapter in it; a chapter, the turning point of which was Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Tehran”.

“In the future, history will remember that Chabahar was a keyword in the two countries’ relations and development of cooperation in the whole region,” continued Ansari.
