President departs for Venezuela

President left early on Friday for America in order to take part in Non-Aligned Movement Summit, attend Iran-Cuba bilateral negotiations and deliver a speech at United Nations General Assembly.

Dr Rouhani, who left for Venezuela to attend NAM Summit, was seen off at the airport by the First Vice-president Dr Jahangiri and Advisor to Supreme Leader Dr Ali Akbar Velayati to begin the first phase of his American tour.

President Rouhani will address the NAM Summit as the chairman of the summit and hand over the presidency to Venezuela.

Dr Rouhani is also set to visit Cuban capital on an official invitation from the President of Cuba in order to attend the bilateral Tehran-Havana negotiations. He is also scheduled to meet with the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro, negotiate with the President of Cuba and sign cooperation documents between the two countries.

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran is also scheduled to depart for New York to attend the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly, meet with a number of high-ranking officials of countries around the world and have meetings with political and economic elites and leaders of different religions.

Before leaving for Latin America, President said: “In this visit, we will have bilateral meetings with Venezuelan officials, as well as authorities of attending countries”.

“In our Cuban visit, we will discuss bilateral and regional issues, due to Cuba’s effectiveness in Latin America,” continued Rouhani.

He said that he was going to express Iran’s viewpoints at UN General Assembly, saying: “Meeting with Muslim clerics and intellectuals, as well as politicians and talking with the media are among other objectives of New York trip”.

Unfortunately, the region and the world are not in good conditions, Rouhani said, adding: “Everybody should seek to establish peace, stability and security in the region and the world”.

Highlighting Iran’s national security as the first priority, after that the security of the region and the world, he also said: “The theme and the agenda of the 17th summit of the 120-member NAM, which is the second largest global assembly after the UN, is peace, sovereignty and solidarity”.

“Peace, not interfering other countries’ national sovereignty, and consultation in settling the developing world is of chief importance to the Islamic Republic of Iran,” said Rouhani.

The President also expressed hope that in addition to explaining Iran’s viewpoints in public communities, Iran can take positive steps in developing bilateral relations with friend countries.
