President in a meeting with new OPEC secretary-general:

Iran backs any move for market stability, improving oil prices based on member countries’ fair share

“The Islamic Republic of Iran supports any move contributing to market stability and improving oil prices which is based on justice and fairness, observing member countries’ fair share,” said President Rouhani in a meeting with the new OPEC Secretary-General Mohammed Barkindo on Tuesday in Tehran.

He added: “Instability and lower oil prices is not only detrimental to the member countries, but also will not be commensurate with the ambitious goal of preserving the environment in the world”.
“We hope that oil prices restore to their stable and fair conditions they used to be in, through prudence, cooperation and harmony among OPEC member countries,” he continued.
“Today, we all should follow a common goal and that is a balanced market,” said Rouhani, wishing the new OPEC secretary-general success in fulfilling his duties.
During the meeting, new OPEC Secretary-General Mohammed Barkindo appreciated Iran for continuously supporting OPEC’s independence and firmness, stressing cooperation and harmony among all countries involved in oil production and export to deal with the challenges.
Underscoring Iran’s key and constructive role in OPEC, he said: “All member countries of OPEC should be in harmony on the path of fairness”.
Referring to Iran’s significant developments in energy sector, Secretary-General Barkindo also said: “Achieving remarkable advancements and taking big steps by Iran in different economic sectors, especially oil and gas, despite various challenges, is a great achievement gained in a short time span after the sanctions”.
