Rouhani in a joint press conference with Swiss President:

Iran, Switzerland determined to develop ties and various fields/Iran-Switzerland trade agreement to become finalised

President Rouhani held a joint press conference with the President of the Swiss Confederation and said: “Iran and Switzerland have no opposing ideas regarding mutual and regional issues and are unanimously determined to develop and deepen ties and cooperation in all fields.

President Hassan Rouhani appeared in a joint press conference with his Swiss counterpart on Saturday and said: “Tehran and Bern are willing to further develop their ties in economic, scientific, cultural, industrial, and trade fields and this trip can be its starting point”.

He added: “Issues that both countries were interested in, especially on developing economic and trade ties were discussed during the negotiations”.

He also said that issued regarding Swiss banks’ activities were discussed as the main factors of Tehran-Bern cooperation.

“Both countries are also determined to finalise the trade agreement of Iran and Switzerland” continued President.

He added: “Iran and Switzerland will sign 6 memoranda of understanding and are willing to boost their ties in tourism”.

Human rights was another issue of discussion between the two presidents as Rouhani said. He continued: “We discussed issues that Muslims have faced during recent years because of Islamophobia in European countries, as well as refugees and the human rights issues they are facing”.

On regional issues, he also said: “We discussed terrorism risks and the fierce conditions people are facing in Syria, Yemen, Libya, Afghanistan, and Pakistan”.

“For the countries of the world to combat terrorism there is no way other than developing ties and consultation, as well as precise implementation of WAVE resolution” continued Dr Rouhani.

In this joint press conference, President Johann Schneider-Ammann said: “This trip is the indicator that the amicable 140-year relations between the two countries should continue and develop in various fields.

He also expressed willingness to receive Iranian economic delegations in his country, as well as providing financial and banking services to further develop ties with Iran.

The Swiss President also expressed hope that direct Tehran-Geneva flights be established very soon.

President Schneider-Ammann also expressed satisfaction over official implementation of JCPOA and said: “Switzerland will serve its role well in the successful implementation process of JCPOA and we have also promised to help Iran’s membership in WTO”.
