Tehran-Baku ties strategic, amicable/In post-JCPOA era developing, cementing ties with neighbours a priority/Caspian Sea the sea of friendship with neighbours

Relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan are strategic and amicable, said President Rouhani during the meeting of high-ranking delegations of Iran and Azerbaijan.

In this meeting which was held on Tuesday, Dr Rouhani also expressed satisfaction over development of ties and cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan.

He also stressed regarding the conditions of the region, Tehran-Baku ties are strategic and continued: “Fortunately, the joint commission of economic cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan are trying actively to develop ties and we should identify the potentials and capacities in all fields to develop cooperation between the two countries”.

On the necessity to make the best use of post-JCPOA era, Dr Rouhani also said: “In post-JCPOA era developing and cementing ties with neighbours is a priority”.

Dr Rouhani also referred to Azerbaijan’s constant support of Iranian nation’s nuclear rights and said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran’s principal policy is to defend its neighbour countries and protecting territorial integrity and the neighbours’ cooperation is of chief importance to us”.

Slamming foreign intervention in internal affairs of other countries, he also said: “Today we are facing the double standards of the West, especially in human rights matters, and we should try to exercise wisdom and common logic to deal with the regional issues and solve them”.

He also stressed unanimity of opinions between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan in regional security and stability and described development of trilateral and multilateral cooperation in the region as a reinforcement of peace, friendship, security, and stability.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran views Caspian Sea as the sea of friendship with the neighbours and we had favourable negotiations between the two countries with regard to development of joint cooperation” Dr Rouhani continued.

Expressing Iran’s willingness to establish joint ventures with Azerbaijan, he added: “We hope to be able to connect Iran’s railways with Azerbaijan through Astara-Astara and it will surely have an effective role in developing north-south corridor”.

President Rouhani also stressed development of cultural cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan.

He added: “Islam is opposed to extremism and violence and Islamic countries should have the message of Islam’s compassion for each other, as well as other countries”.

“Iran seed no limitation on the way of developing cooperation and cementing ties with the Republic of Azerbaijan” continued Rouhani.

On tourism, he also underlined protecting the environment and confronting with Caspian Sea water contamination, as well as expanding shipping and using potentials of the sea.

In this meeting, President Aliyev also expressed satisfaction over his trip to Iran and said: “Iran and Azerbaijan have had significant development of ties and the officials of both countries are seeking ways to deepen these ties in all areas and levels”.

He added: “Common history and culture have made an unbreakable bond between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan”.
