In a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart;

President: Iran, Russia determined to develop ties in peaceful nuclear activity

Iran and Russia are taking steps to develop ties more than before and the post-JCPOA environment is a good opportunity in doing so, said President Rouhani in a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart President Putin.

In this press conference which was held after the GECF Summit late on Monday, President Rouhani said: “The post-JCPOA environment is a good opportunity to develop ties and cooperation between the two countries in mutual areas, as well as regional and international issues and this opportunity should be used to the benefit of the two nations and establishment of peace and security in the region and the world”.

“A lot of investment opportunities in different economic areas such as energy, oil and gas, electricity, railways, and infrastructure projects are ahead of the private and public sectors of both countries and by using them, Tehran-Moscow ties will cement more than before” said President after 7 pacts signed by the high-level officials of two countries.

Speaking about securing a line of credit between the two countries and lowering the commerce tariffs, Dr Rouhani said: “Issues concerning banking relations is another important issue in developing these ties and we are determined to activate it”

“Facilitating visas for the citizens of both countries and putting joint projects in to action can act as another area in boosting ties” added Rouhani.

Pointing out that the two countries have had good cooperation with each other in peaceful nuclear energy for years now, Dr Rouhani continued: “Today, we are determined to boost ties in this area”.

On Tehran-Moscow cooperation in regional issues and combatting terrorism, he said: “We decided to expand cooperation in this area more than before”.

Vladimir Putin on his part appreciated the successful holding of the 3rd DECF in Tehran and described it as a good opportunity to review the two countries' cooperation in the field of energy and notably gas and said: "I had also some key negotiations with Iranian counterpart on the sidelines of the forum which was held especially after the talks with the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran".

He referred to his talks with Iranian authorities about different aspects of mutual ties especially on economic fields and international cooperation and coordination to tackle terrorism especially in Syrian and the resolve of Syrian crisis and said:" Russia still goes on with its efforts to solve the Syrian crisis".

Also pointing to some mutual agreements signed with Iran, Russian President reiterated that Moscow is to accelerate the economic cooperation with Tehran, thereby it will make a list of the two nations’ demands to be met and exchanged based on the two countries' national currencies.

Putin reported of the allocation of a 5 billion dollars Russian credit to Iran, and said:" We have defined 25 prioritized projects in different fields of energy, constructions and telecommunications".

He stressed on the Moscow's firm decision to continue its cooperation with Tehran on the peaceful nuclear energy and said: "Moscow has finished the first phase of such cooperation with constructing of Bushehr nuclear power plant and is to start the 2nd and 3rd phases afterward based on a predefined road map.

Russia is also to assist Iran to transform its enriched uranium to produce sustainable Isotopes.
