President: Expanding Tehran-New Delhi ties necessary

India, as a big Asian country, is considered by Iran as an important friend and the ties between the two countries is historical, said President Rouhani in a meeting with the new Indian ambassador while receiving his credentials.

President continued: “Iran and India being neighbors in the region and geographical connection by the ocean and strategic issues of the region has caused Iran-India ties more close”.

Stating that Tehran and New Delhi can further strengthen their ties in all fields of mutual interests such as economy, politics and culture, Rouhani reiterated that in case of expanding multilateral ties and cooperation, India can use Iranian important transit port of Chabahar which well connects India to Afghanistan and the Central Asian countries.

He expressed hope the two countries' existing relations would be strengthen and expanded through more mutual cooperation and said that Tehran and New Delhi can also have extensive cooperation in different fields, including the development of their ports and railways, setting up different industries and energy and other economic and trade sections.

While presenting his credentials to the President, Kumar on his part described the historical ties between his country as a best base of the further expansion of it and expressed New Delhi's readiness to cooperate and consult with Iran in all areas including politics and economy, and strategic issues related to fighting against terrorism.

He also described Chahbahar as an important connection between his country and Afghanistan and Central Asian countries and called for the expansion of the two countries' cooperation in the region and India's more investment in the Chahbahar free trade zone.

India's new Ambassador also underlined providing the two countries' people with some suitable facilities for the expansion of their relations, as well.
