President in a meeting with the Croatian parliament speaker:

Conditions favourable for more Tehran-Zagreb ties

President Hassan Rouhani early on Sunday met with the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Josip Leko in Tehran, stressing the expansion of all-round ties between the two countries, and the need to have a united world against terrorism.

In this meeting, the president said: “Iran, as a very important country in the Middle East, and Croatia, as another important country in the Balkans can act as a bridge between the two regions”.
“In the new post-nuclear-deal environment, conditions are favourable for developing all-round economic ties” said Dr Rouhani adding: “By gaining a proper momentum in cooperation between the two countries in the coming months, we can further improve the level of Tehran-Zagreb ties in 2016”.
He also said: “In addition to economic ties, Iran and Croatia have a lot of potentials in areas like science, research, and technical areas”.
Speaking about terrorism and violence in the region, President Rouhani said: “Today, the effects of violence and terrorism have spread to Europe like a contagious disease; therefore, if there is violence and terrorism in any region, everyone must be alarmed”.
Iran is ready to cooperate with all countries including the EU in fighting with terrorism as it has got more effective fight against terrorism, added Rouhani saying: “Tehran is ready to collaborate, consult, and cooperate on important regional and global issues”.
Dr Rouhani also appreciated Croatia’s support of Iran’s rights to peaceful nuclear activities, and said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has not accepted, nor agrees with double standards in any issue and we believe that there should not be any discrimination among countries, or any privilege for a country over another in using science and technology”.
In this meeting, Josip Leko said that Croatia views Iran as a great power with a vast economy not only in the region, but also in the world and continued: “We are determined to further develop ties with Iran and we believe that these ties can help to improve more peace and stability in the region and the world”.
The Parliament Speaker of Croatia also said that his country views Iran’s role in solving the regional disputes as undeniable, adding: “Croatia gives a lot of credit to Iran’s stances, especially regarding solving crises in the region, particularly in Iraq and Syria”.
Leko viewed his discussions with his Iranian counterpart as fruitful and constructive and said: “Iran and Croatia have a lot of potentials for expanding cooperation, especially economic sectors and we are sure that this cooperation will be further fostered in the very near future”.
Leko also expressed his condolences about the Mina stampede incident and hundreds of Iranian pilgrims losing their lives in it.
