President Rouhani also described the IAEA tasks as important and sophisticated in technical, legal, and political areas and said: “We favour growing global public opinion in trusting the IAEA because trusting this important institution brings calmness to people all over the world.”

Iran has had extensive ties with IAEA in the past 12 years and has always tried to have these ties in a good, regular, and lawful manner, said Rouhani adding: “We do not expect anything more than what has been stated in IAEA’s statute and we do not seek anything more than the Safeguard Agreement between Iran and IAEA”.

The Iranian President also said: “IAEA oversees countries’ nuclear activities on the one hand in order for them not to deviate from peaceful programs, and tries to make sure countries enjoy advanced peaceful technology in nuclear areas on the other. We hope that this institution will fulfil its responsibilities in moving towards helping other countries’ scientific development including Iran, in the upcoming months”.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has not and will not seek any WMDs because of its religious beliefs and its military doctrine, said Rouhani adding: “Fortunately, the peacefulness of Iran’s nuclear program has been proved during the past years and IAEA’s monitoring and its unannounced inspections have verified it and stated that Iran has never deviated from its peaceful program”.

President Rouhani referred to the negotiations with 5+1 countries and thanked all the countries for using their utmost power in the past two years of negotiations which resulted in an important and historical agreement, and said: “The IAEA will have an effective role in implementing this agreement”.

Expressing contentment about the achieved modality for agreement with 5+1 on alleged studies and about a document that was signed between Atomic Energy Organization of Iran and the IAEA on cooperation between the two organizations in order to solve some remaining issues, and said: “In implementing JCPOA, we will voluntarily implement the Additional Protocol and we hope that you will justly monitor this process”.

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Yukiya Amano, also described visits and discussions on the Vienna Agreement and its implementation as important, and said: “IAEA is eager to resolve all issues based on discussion and negotiations”.

Expressing satisfaction about expansion of cooperation between Iran and IAEA after Dr Rouhani being elected as the president of Iran and reaching JCPOA and signing the roadmap between Iran and IAEA after the previous visit, Amano said: “IAEA seeks to clarify issues and implementing its assigned tasks and this helps to lay the groundwork on long-term cooperation”.

He also appreciated the arrangements being made to fulfil IAEA missions during this visit and expressed hope that the IAEA experts’ reports on PMD will be released to the Board of Governors as soon as possible based on JCPOA and after being agreed by the representatives of all negotiating countries.

“IAEA is following a step-by-step, regular, and progressive movement towards evaluating the programs related to Iran and tries to release its report based on impartiality and emphasis on facts”, Amano underscored.
