Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wound up his two-day official visit to Baghdad and left Iraq on Monday.

During his stay, Ahmadinejad met and conferred with senior Iraqi officials and people from different walks of life and signed seven memoranda of understanding.



Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, Vice-President Adel Abdelmahdi, Deputy Prime Minister Barham Saleh, a number of cabinet ministers and parliament members were present at the official farewell ceremony.



Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari and head of presidential office are to see off the Iranian president and his entourage at Baghdad Airport.



Seven memoranda of understanding were signed for promotion of Iran-Iraq cooperation on Monday in the presence of the Iranian and Iraqi presidents.



The documents were singed during an official ceremony held at the residence of President Talabani in Baghdad.



The MoUs were related to Tehran-Baghdad cooperation on customs and insurance affairs as well as their cooperation in the fields of industry, transportation and development of mining industries.



President Ahmadinejad arrived in Baghdad Sunday, heading a high-ranking political and economic delegation on a two-day official visit.



The historic visit was taking place at the official invitation of President Talabani.



The memorandum on Tehran-Baghdad cooperation in the field of insurance and customs affairs was signed by the Iranian and Iraqi ministers of finance while the document on the two countries' industrial cooperation was inked by Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and the Iraqi minister of industry.



It is reported earlier that five to ten agreements would be signed by officials of the two neighboring countries during the visit of the Iranian delegation to Iraq.



The Iranian and Iraqi ministers of energy are also expected to attend a ground breaking ceremony for establishment of two power plants in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala. The projects are to be carried out with the help of Iranian experts.
