President confers with Chinese counterpart

President Hassan Rouhani and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, in a meeting in Jakarta on Thursday discussed issues of mutual interest.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the second day of a Summit meeting of Asian-African heads of state in the Indonesian capital.
During the meeting, the two presidents also exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments.
Dr.Rouhani and Xi underlined the need for further expansion of bilateral relations between Tehran and Beijing.
Dr.Rouhani focused on how Beijing could help the process of nuclear talks between Iran and the six world powers.
The president said that the two presidents had also discussed ways to fight terrorism and extremism and explored ways to promote economic and cultural relations.
Dr.Rouhani also said that the two have discussed the latest regional developments, including the ongoing crisis in Yemen.
President Rouhani pointed to cooperation with China in energy sector; “apart from energy, Iran has higher capacities in infrastructure, transportations, railroad, ports and modern technology for attracting investments.”
Xi, for his part, stressed the importance of relations between Iran and China and called for the expansion of bilateral cooperation in line with the mutual interests of the two countries.
Chinese President Xi Jinping for his part said China and Iran could cooperate in economy based on the Silk Road model, which included, inter alia, railroads and sea routes; “China welcomes drafting of economic grand roadmap, and would invest in energy, ports, railroad and advanced cutting-edge technologies.”
He underlined that his country attaches special significance to promotion of relations with Tehran.
Xi also welcomed Iran’s role and political initiative in bringing ceasefire to Yemen.
