Iran seeks Iraq's unity

President Hassan Rouhani stressed that all the people and government of Iran are seeking to maintain the integrity and unity of Iraq.

President Rouhani stressed that national discord in Iraq and disintegration of that country will neither serve the Iraqi nation's interests, nor that of the regional countries.
President Rouhani said: “The entire Iraqi tribes, including the Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish folks must have shares in the Iraqi governance system.”
President expressing hope in establishing security in Iraq by help of Iraqi nation and friendly countries said that success, prosperity and security in Iraq is the will of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
President Hassan Rouhani expressed his satisfaction over political developments in Iraq and the formation of the new government and parliament.
Referring to the friendly and cultural bilateral relations between Iran and Iraq, President Rouhani said that we believe that these relations should expand.
“Iraq, in particular, enjoys a special status in Iran’s foreign policy and Iran, with its huge economic, cultural and political potentials and capacities can be a good partner for Iraq,” he added.
President said that Iran considers Iraq's security and stability as its own security and stability, added two nations have common history, religion and interests, therefore they should have unity in various issues.
Iraq’s President Fouad Massoum, for his part, said that the two countries’ shared historical and cultural interests are both strong and very old and the Iraqi high-ranking official believe they should always be further expanded and deepened.
President Massoum recalled the Islamic Republic of Iran’s support for the opponent forces against the former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, adding that even today if Iran’s constant support had not existed getting rid of the IS nuisance would not have been possible.
