Islamic Republic’s priority is to develop ties with India / Indian PM to visit Iran

President Hassan Rouhani said that Iran and India enjoy common historical and cultural roots, describing the two countries as “reliable partners.”

President said during his Friday meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on the sidelines of a summit of the Shangahi Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe.
Iran welcomes presence of Indian investors in its energy projects as well as development of Southeastern port of Chabahar, President Rouhani added.
Recalling cooperation between Tehran and New Delhi in the energy sector, Dr.Rouhani said that many countries are keen to invest in Iran. He, however, underlined that the Islamic Republic’s priority is to develop ties with regional countries, including India, which he said is a powerful regional partner for Iran.
President Hassan Rouhani has invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to travel to Iran for talks on the expansion of bilateral ties.
“We hope to see a new chapter in relations between the two countries,” Dr.Rouhani said.
The Indian foreign minister, for his part, said Iran is a reliable partner for India as well as one of the main suppliers of energy for his country.
She welcomed expansion of all-out ties with Iran.
It is expected that Indian prime minister will pay a visit to Iran in the next year, Swaraj said.
