The Iranian and Turkmen presidents stressed the need to promote Tehran-Ashgabat cooperation

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Friday morning met Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and discussed with him bilateral ties.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit meeting in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe.
The Iranian and Turkmen presidents, highlighting the cultural and geographical affinities, stressed the need to promote the level of cooperation of Tehran-Ashgabat at the highest possible.
President said that Iran and Turkmenistan relations are historical-cultural and the two countries should do their best to enhance their trade exchange.
He referred to inauguration of The Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway and added that Iran is the safest route to connect central Asia to the Persian Gulf.
Turkmenistan president for his part welcomed development of ties with Tehran in various fields including energy, trade and road construction.
Stressing the effective establishment of Iran on the international and regional arena and also the historical and cultural affinities of the two countries, Turkmen President said that Iran had a good presence in the sectors of energy, transport and Turkmenistan's economy, and we hope that the level of relations of two countries raises the level as high as possible.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, calls for more activate the joint committee.
