In a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister:

President calls for ties with Pakistan based on broadening secure and developed borders

President Hassan Rouhani said on Sunday that relations between Iran and Pakistan should be based on broadening secure and developed borders.

Dr.Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Tehran on Sunday.
President Hassan Rouhani said: “The Iranian government and nation have always called for the establishment of stability and security along the Iran-Pakistan border and have always tried to prevent any damage from our country’s border areas to any neighboring state, particularly Pakistan.”
The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to connect the countries by means of rail tracks, roads and laying fiber optic, said President Rouhani.
Iran and Pakistan have a very long border which plays a significant role in maintaining both sidesˈ securities, he said.
He called for expansion of cultural and economic cooperation between the two countries particularly along joint border regions.
President Rouhani expressed the hope that development of power transmission network could play a leading role in expanding economic cooperation between the two neighboring states.
Recent unfortunate border incidents have affected both sidesˈ public opinions; Dr.Rouhani said and lauded the close cooperation of the Pakistani government and nation for release of kidnapped Iranian border guards who were under captivity of terrorist groups.
The president commended Pakistan’s efforts to secure the release the Iranian border guards abducted by Jaish-ul-Adl terrorist group, saying further efforts by Islamabad to control and secure Pakistan's borders would speed up development in the country and across the region.
Iran has made huge investments in Tehran-Islamabad gas pipeline project dubbed as ˈPeace Pipelineˈ and has properly displayed its commitments, he said.
Iran is keen to improve its relations with neighboring states and with Pakistan in particular, President Rouhani said.
Referring to expansion of economic and commercial relations between the two countries, he said there are no limits to expansion of all out cultural and economic relations with Pakistan.
Dr.Rouhani says terrorism is a “big and serious” problem in the region, stressing that Iran and Pakistan can counter terrorism in cooperation with other regional countries.
Iran and Pakistan are two great Muslim countries that are able to uproot terrorism and violence in the region by inviting other regional states to enhance intelligence, security and operational cooperation,
“All regional and Arab countries must believe that the presence of terrorist groups will not help peace, stability and the interests of any country,” he added.
He noted that Iran and Pakistan enjoy great capacities to boost cooperation in their border regions.
Sharif, for his part, said his country is a victim of terrorism that has inflicted “severe blows” to Pakistan’s economy.
Pakistan believes that foreign powers may be pursuing plans to undermine Tehran-Islamabad ties, Sharif added, expressing his country’s determination to counter such plots.
He emphasized that Iran and Pakistan should have common strategies and mechanisms to counter acts of terror and identify and fight terrorist groups in order to fully establish security in borders.
