Addressing a ceremony to honor exemplary teachers, the President said Iranian youth are currently more influential than those in the past.
He added that parents should trust their young children, believe in their abilities and be proud of them.
Dr.Rouhani continued that “we welcome and accept positive ideas of alien cultures,” however, he emphasized that “we would uphold our own cultural, intellectual, and national frameworks.”
“It is naïve to think that the only duty of a teacher is teaching; rather, educating means teaching and fostering, which should be regarded by teachers as an important duty,” added he.
Dr.Rouhani maintained that Motahari should be a model for all of us. “Motahari’s path was a path of moderation, many did not tolerate it though, but he did his duty well paying no attention to the others,” was Rouhani’s sideswipe to part of political right in Iran.
Dr.Rouhani asserted that teaching should be with patience, endurance and tolerance, attributes which would make teaching a painstaking, yet enjoyable act.
“We learn science and art from others and learn life styles from them if it is a good way of living but at the same time, it is very important to maintain our own intellectual independence and cultural entity.”
President Rouhani said presently, Iranians are facing various kinds of invasions including invasion against their religion, their beliefs and morals as well as the one against their life style.
He said the West claimed to be the cultural and intellectual leader of the world while the US, in turn, claims to be the leader of the West.
“None of those claims would ever be true but they are pursuing them,” he said.
More in the ceremony, President Rouhani awarded 45 exemplary teachers.
