“We expect to hear good news in this regard,” he said, while calling for “joint action by both countries against terrorists.”
President Rouhani said Iran expected serious measures to be taken by Pakistani officials to help release the border guards, especially after a joint border commission was formed.
He underlined Iran’s resolve to cooperate with Pakistan to counter terrorism in the region and said Tehran is ready to cooperate with Islamabad, at any level, to establish security along the borders.
ˈI believe that joint measures by both countries against terrorism can influence public opinion of both nations in a positive way, ˈ the president said.
Dr.Rouhani noted that the terrorist groups are seeking to damage friendly ties between the two Islamic and neighboring countries, and expressed hope that Pakistani government would take immediate measures in that regard.
For his part, Sharif said the issue was of “utmost importance” to his government and that he was “prepared to boost action to free the soldiers.”
Nawaz Sharif congratulated President Rouhani and the Iranian nation on the occasion of Nowrouz, the Persian New Year, and said his country attaches special significance to brotherly ties with Iran which have their roots in cultural, religious and historical commonalities.
Pakistan feels strongly committed to guaranteeing security along its borders with Iran and will never allow the terrorists to use Pakistani soil to carry out attacks on Iran, he said.
