
Ahmadinejad urges security economic cooperation among PG states
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday called for security and economic cooperation between Iran and the Persian Gulf littoral states.

In an address to the inaugural session of the 28th summit of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council on Monday, Ahmadinejad offered 12 proposals on promotion of relations among the Persian Gulf states, including removal of visa requirement in order to ease transit and travel to each of the seven littoral states.
President Ahmadinejad said stronger ties among the regional states would promote security, peace and friendship in the region and the world.
He said, "We can through assistance and coordination turn the Persian Gulf into the center of peace, friendship and fraternity for ever."
Highlighting religious, historical, geographic and cultural commonalties among the states, Ahmadinejad made 12 suggestions for promotion of cordial ties and cooperation among the states.
Elsewhere in his address, Ahmadinejad said, "We are for durable peace and security based on justice and kindness and free from foreign intervention. Also, we want further prosperity, progress and welfare for all regional nations, considering progress of each of the regional states as our own."
The 12 proposals offered to the meeting by the president included: Establishment of economic cooperation organization, cancellation of visa to ease visits by citizens of the seven countries, allowing ownership of non-movable properties, joint investment in oil and gas resources on bilateral and multi-lateral basis, planning free trade among the states, supply of water and gas, activation of the North-South corridor, expansion of tourism, helping Islamic and weak states, establishment of an security cooperation organization, educational, scientific, technological and research exchanges, and cooperation in protecting Persian Gulf and Oman Sea environment.
He invited the participants to take part in a joint meeting in Tehran to discuss all areas of cooperation.
