The Iranian president returned home from his day-long visit to Qatar Monday evening.
Talking to reporters upon arrival at Tehran International Mehrabad Airport, he added that a new chapter for cooperation in the Persian Gulf region had opened.
"During the visit, the existing intimacy among the regional states, which the ill-wishers had attempted for 30 years to portray otherwise, was displayed," he noted.
"The presence of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Summit of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) for the first time and after 26 years, paved the way for further expansion of regional cooperation," the president said.
Iran's presence in the summit proves new developments in Iran-PGCC relations, he said adding, Iran's comprehensive and constructive proposals were welcomed by the regional states.
In the PGCC summits opening session, only the chairman of the meeting delivers speech, but in this case, Iran's representative also addressed the meeting, President Ahmadinejad said.
The Iranian president said he had reviewed issues of mutual interest as well as the latest regional and Islamic developments with the Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, the UAE ruler Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed al-Nahyan and Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa on the sidelines of the summit.
He also referred to his brief meetings with Saudi and Omani kings as well as Bahraini and Kuwaiti leaders held on the sidelines of the confab.
