President Ahmadinejad replied, "I'm here on an invitation extended by the Emir of Qatar, and my comments at the meeting were quite obvious. I had proposals for comprehensive cooperation, including in security field."
Ahmadinejad emphasized, "We do not move based on what the others assume and regarding our nuclear issue, I have to tell you it's a finished matter, although Iran-US accusations against one another are nothing new."
He added, "Such debates, too, would come to an end, but so long as hey use the same old literature, our response, too, would be in the same line, although none of these matters can affect our relations with our brethren in the region."
Reporter of Egypt's Al-Ahram asked, "You several times repeated the name of the Persian Gulf in your address and you also spoke of friendship. But here they call the same sea as the Arabian Gulf, and the UAE keeps on claiming ownership of the three islands." President Ahmadinejad replied, "The general atmosphere of the meeting was quite friendly today, and the points I made were quite clear. I believe the regional nations are quite pleased with what happened in Doha today."
Addressing the Egyptian reporter, Ahmadinejad said, "Convey my regards to Mr. Hassanain Heikal and ask him to launch a referendum on the matter you put forth. The result would be the reply to your question."
Ahmadinejad said, "The nations are happy to see that the regional governments are friends of one another and are working together to seek solutions to regional problems."
He emphasized, "We need to back up any move aimed at promotion of unity among nations, and our efforts are aimed at strengthening the positive and shared points, since putting emphasis over the points of discord and disunity would lead us nowhere."
Reporter of Kuwait's Al-Wasat daily asked about Iran-Kuwait relations and Iran's support for the Iraqi Government. Ahmadinejad replied, "We enjoy excellent ties with Kuwait and we face no problem regarding our shared oil and gas fields currently."
He added, "We also support Iraq's independence and territorial integrity wholeheartedly, and that is our position regrading any country that would be invaded in the region."
Syria's Alwatan daily reporter asked whether his country's participation at Annapolis Peace Talks would affect the two countries' excellent ties.
Ahmadinejad said, "We have already announced our stands regarding the Annapolis Talks and we do not wish to repeat them. We think so long as the Palestinians' problems remain unsolved there would be no real peace in Palestine."
He added, "Our excellent relations with Syria would not be affected by such developments though and President Bashar al-Assad's very friendly message, inclusive of some explanations on Syria's presence at Annapolis were noteworthy."
In response to Emirate's Al-Arab daily reporter's question on UAE's efforts aimed at ensuring regional security, President Ahmadinejad said, "We, too, put forth our proposals for joint moves aimed at ensuring regional security. After all the regional nations are living side by side of one another here, and we are capable of ensuing our own region's security hand in hand."
Ahmadinejad emphasized, "The aliens are temporary tenants and could have to leave the region, while our presence would mark the beginning of a turning point."
In response to Lebanon's Al-Nahar TV reporter on the status in that country, the IRI President said that Tehran supports Lebanon's independence and territorial integrity, believing that Israel must leave the scene there.
A Saudi reporter one more time asked President Ahmadinejad whether he had not attended the meeting based on his own will.
Ahmadinejad repeated that he was in Doha based on an invitation made by the Emir of Qatar, adding, "What difference does it make to you anyway? The important point is that I am here and I am talking to you. You too had better wish for a better future and highlight the positive points."
The Iranian President after the press conference attended a dinner party thrown by Emir of Qatar for the participants of the summit.
