"All regional states should work hand in hand to make the Persian Gulf region a place for peace and amity," the president told reporters before his departure for Doha this morning.

President Ahmadinejad left here for Doha to attend the Summit of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) which will begin in the Qatari capital later in the day.

He takes part in the summit at the official invitation of the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.

This is the first time the PGCC states have invited Iranian president to their summit as a guest.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman are members of the PGCC.

"We have proposals for promotion of regional cooperation and relations which we will put forward during the summit," President Ahmadinejad said.

The president added, in addition to taking part in the gathering, he would hold separate meetings with heads of state of the Persian Gulf littoral countries.

President Ahmadinejad reiterated that promotion of all-out regional cooperation was part of Iran's foreign policy during the past three decades.

"The Iranian nation will always be happy for progress of its neighboring states," stressed the president.

"Iran has many plans for promotion of ties and cooperation with its neighbors in the Persian Gulf region," President Ahmadinejad added.
