President confers with Afghan counterpart

President Hassan Rouhani and his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai in a meeting here Sunday agreed on the need for expansion and improvement of ties among the Persian-speaking countries.

President Rouhani in his Sunday evening meeting with President Karzai appreciated him for his presence at his endorsement and his swearing-in ceremonies.
President Rouhani added: "The Islamic Republic of Iran and Afghanistan have lots of commonalties and potentials which need to be employed at the service of maximum expansion of deep bilateral ties.
The President stressed that in other opportunities and in detailed talks between the Iranian and the Afghan officials the possibilities for broader cooperation between the two nations and the two governments need to be surveyed.
He added:" The Persian-speaking countries of Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan can expand comprehensive cooperation among them more than ever before.
The Afghan president, for his part, in the meeting congratulated President Rouhani for winning the Islamic Republic of Iran’s top political position.
President Karzai also expressed the hope that during the new political era in Iran President Rohani’s government would manage to pave the path for ever more progress and advancement of Iran.
He, meanwhile, appreciated the Islamic Republic of Iran for its permanent support for Afghanistan, reiterating, The Iranian nation and government have always duly comprehended the issues with which Afghanistan has been entangled and warmly embraced the people of our country.”
President Karzai arrived in Iran on Sunday to participate in Rohani’s swearing-in ceremony at the Iranian Parliament.
